Dr. Alexa Lampkin
Dr. Alexa Lampkin, a native of Ridgeland, Mississippi, made history as the first African American valedictorian of St. Joseph Catholic School in 2009. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Mississippi in 2013, where she was a distinguished member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. Dr. Lampkin then pursued her passion for dentistry, graduating from the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) School of Dentistry in 2017.
Following graduation, Dr. Lampkin completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency, after which she became the youngest assistant professor at the UMMC School of Dentistry. She practiced as a general dentist at University Dentists, PLLC, from 2018 until August 2024. During her time at UMMC, she was appointed as a Director of Admissions for the School of Dentistry in 2021.
Her leadership and commitment to service have earned her several groundbreaking distinctions. In 2022, Dr. Lampkin became the first African American female to serve as President of the UMMC Dental Alumni Board, and she was also the first African American female and the first female dentist overall to be appointed to the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners by Governor Tate Reeves.
In August 2024, she completed an Executive Master of Science in Population Health Management from the John D. Bower School of Population Health at UMMC. In September 2024, she started private practice at Mint Dental Pearl, in Pearl, Mississippi, where she continues to treat and educate her community on the importance of oral health and its vital connection to long-term systemic health. Dr. Lampkin also remains as a part-time faculty member at the UMMC School of Dentistry, where she is dedicated to preparing the next generation of dentists to serve all communities across Mississippi.
